Over one hundred female hackers filled the gymnasium at Touro’s Lander College for Women - The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School (LCW) last month for the fifth annual student-run hackathon, HackItTogether. The women shared a day of coding competition in a warm, collaborative environment.

Thomas (Tom) Rozinski, JD, MA, pre-law advisor and associate professor of Political Science at Touro’s Lander Colleges, was recently elected President of the largest pre-law advising association in the country. His new role with the Northeast Association of Pre-Law Advisors (NAPLA) recognizes his dedication to students and commitment to improving undergraduate and law school education.

Future Psychologist to be Honored at Commencement

Ayelet Schwerd has always wanted to become a psychologist. Growing up with a mother and two older sisters who are psychologists, she knew it was a way she could make a difference in people’s lives. Next year, she will begin the PsyD program at Rutgers University, one of the top-ranked programs in the nation. This month she will graduate from Touro as the valedictorian of Lander College for Women -- The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School.

New York, N.Y. – Nine outstanding high school students from around the country were selected to receive the prestigious Sarah Rivkah and Dr. Bernard Lander zt”l Scholarship, presented jointly by Touro College and the National Conference of Synagogue Youth (NCSY), the international youth arm of the Orthodox Union. The scholarships, named in memory of Touro’s Founding President Dr. Bernard Lander ztz”l and his wife Sarah Rivkah, were announced by Touro President Dr. Alan Kadish  and Orthodox Union President Martin Nachimson.

Teaching Science to Autistic Students May Improve Social Skills, New Research Finds

New York, N.Y. – New research suggests that an elementary school curriculum that focuses on the sciences might be particularly beneficial to individuals with autism, enhancing not only their classroom knowledge, but their social skills, as well. “Teaching Paleobiology to Children with Autism” will be presented at a poster session on November 1 at the 2015 Geological Society of America (GSA) annual meeting in Baltimore, Md. by Dina Beck-Billig, a senior at Touro’s Lander College for Women–The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School (LCW) in Manhattan, and Dr. Howard R. Feldman, a paleontologist and biology professor at LCW.

New York, NY—Touro College celebrated its 41st annual Commencement exercises at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center on Sunday, May 31, awarding a total of 647 baccalaureate and associate degrees to graduates from Lander College for Men in Kew Gardens Hills (LCM); Lander College for Women-The Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School in Manhattan (LCW); Lander College of Arts & Sciences-Flatbush (LAS Men’s and Women’s divisions); the School for Lifelong Education in Brooklyn; and Machon L’Parnasa-Institute for Professional Studies.
