Capes & Courage with Ms. Esther Rosenfeld
LCW students gather to discuss what it takes to be a Jewish Superhero
Ms. Esther Rosenfeld, a proud member of the Touro College staff and a Lander College for Women—the Anna Ruth and Mark Hasten School (LCW) alumna, gave a fascinating lunchtime lecture yesterday entitled “Capes & Courage: What it takes to be a Jewish Superhero.” Ms. Rosenfeld’s shared modern myths, timeless tales, and stories about the American Jews who created the superhero comics widely known and loved.
Ms. Rosenfeld delved into the ethics and characteristics of some favorite superheroes, including Superman, Batman, and Robin as the group shared their personal favorites. She then took the classic understanding of a superhero and compared their traits to Jewish “superheroes” such as Moshe, David, and Yehuda. The discussion ended on a relevant note, with students introspecting and collectively learning what it means to be a present-day superhero.
“'With great power comes great responsibility.' What is greater than the power within us?" asked Ms. Rosenfeld.
