Computer Exemption Examination: Information Notes

1. The Computer Exemption Examination is based on the material covered in MCO 140. The reading list for information on how to prepare/review for the examination is available on the guard’s desk.

2. Passing the examination exempts students from the core computer requirement. It also satisfies the prerequisite for any course (such as MCO 148) for which MCO 140 is the prerequisite.

3. No credits are earned for passing the examination. Students who have passed the examination may NOT take MCO 140 or any equivalent or lower level course.

4. The exam will have two parts.  Students must pass Part I to be eligible to take Part II of the exemption examination. Part I of the exam is a written exam; Part II must be completed on a computer terminal. Upon successfully passing Part I (with the minimum score that would allow the student to pass the entire exam), students are eligible to take Part II of the exam.

5. There will be no fee for Part I of the exam. However, Part II links to an existing service, so there will be a $22 fee payable to that service.

6. The exam is open to all matriculated undergraduate students.

7. Students may take the test only once.

8. The exam is not available to students who have previously taken MCO 140, or to computer science majors.
