Columbia University Center for Bioethics and New York Medical College's Medical Ethics and Humanities Program present a conference on "The Future of Reproductive Medicine: A Jewish Perspective."
The conference will focus on two ethically challenging biotechnologies, namely mitochondrial transplantation therapy and reproductive cloning, and will address the following questions:
- Is it permissible to create an embryo from more than two parents?
- What is the legal and religious status of an embryo created from two men or women?
- Who is the legal or halakhic mother(s) in embryos created from genetic information obtained from two women?
LCW welcomes Susan Lobel, M.D., Metropolitan Reproductive Medicine; Rabbi Moshe Tendler, Ph.D., Yeshiva University; Rabbi Tzvi Flaum, Lander College for Women; Theodore Silver, J.D., M.D., Touro Law Center.
