Pre-Dental Sequence

Students who plan to apply to schools of dentistry, medicine, optometry, and osteopathy typically major in a natural science (e.g., biology) or social science (e.g., psychology). In order to be prepared for the Dental Admission Test (DAT) or the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), students should complete the following sequence of courses:

Required Courses (32 Credits)

  • BIO 101 - Principles of Biology I - 4 credits
  • BIO 101 - Principles of Biology II - 4 credits
  • CPC 101 - General Chemistry I - 4 credits
  • CPC 102 - General Chemistry II - 4 credits
  • CPC 201 - Organic Chemistry I - 4 credits
  • CPC 202 - Organic Chemistry II - 4 credits
  • CPP 101 - General Physics I - 4 credits
  • CPP 102 - General Physics II - 4 credits

Strongly Recommended Courses (18 Credits) 

  • CPC 311 - Biochemistry I** - 3 credits
  • LLE 101 - English Composition I**
  • LLE 102 - English Composition II**
  • PSY 101 - Introduction to Psychology - 3 credits
  • SAS 103 - Introduction to Sociology - 3 credits
  • MAT 261 - Statistics for Social Science Majors - 3 credits

Recommended Courses (6-8 credits)

  • MAT__ - Calculus** or above - 4 credits
  • BIO 211 - Genetics - 3 credits
  • BIO 222 - Anatomy and Physiology I - 4 credits
  • BIO 223 - Anatomy and Physiology II - 4 credits
  • BIO 228 - Microbiology - 3 credits
